How to Fix Error 944 in Google Play Store

Error 944 occurs in Google Play Store while updating apps. This error was occurs mostly during updating apps such as YouTube, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc. Whether you update the app manually or automatically, Error 944 does not allow you to update the application. The error message that appears on the screen:

“Update for 'App-name' could not be downloaded due to an error 944”

How to Fix Error 944 in Google Play Store

Method 1: Clear Cache and Data for Play Store app

  • Go to Settings >> Applications or App Manager >> All Apps >> Find Google Play Store and tap on it >> Clear cache and Clear data
  • Force app to stop.
  • Search for Google Play services >> Clear cache and data
  • Also, look for google play services framework >> Clear cache and data
  • Then find Download Manager >> Clear cache and data
  • Now, restart your device and try to download the app.
Clearing your cache and data should resolve your issue. If you still receive the error message, go to the next step.

Method 2: Verify your Internet connection

Many users have found that error 944 appears due to an Internet problem. In many cases it may be found that the error occurs because of slow Internet connection. Therefore, I would recommend checking the internet connection first. Make sure your internet connection works properly and at a good speed. You can also try switching your Internet connection from WiFi to Mobile data and vice versa.

Note: This error also appears when the Google Play Store servers are offline. Therefore, if you can not fix the problem through the methods listed above. I would recommend waiting a bit and then try again. In many cases we found that the error disappears after a few hours or even a few minutes.
